Kaliningrad

Although Peter I hoped to bring Russia closer to Europe with the help of St. Petersburg, today the main city where Russian reality meets European reality is Kaliningrad - also known as Koenigsberg, or, as the locals affectionately call it, Kenik. The spirit of a German town still hangs in the city to this day, mixing with the smell of the sea and modern Western culture. There is an unreal maritime museum, a miraculously restored Fishing Village, and a stunning Cathedral with the tomb of that same Kant. There are also extremely typical burgher, somewhat shabby quarters, which are so pleasant to walk through, remembering the city’s past.…
